Description
A small-batch, single-serve version of the popular restaurant appetizer, cooked in an air fryer for a crispy, spicy, and creamy dinner with zero waste.
Ingredients
Scale
- 8–10 jumbo or extra-large shrimp (6–8 oz / 170-225g), peeled and deveined
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning
- 3 tablespoons panko breadcrumbs
- 1 pinch salt
- Cooking spray (olive oil or avocado oil)
- 3 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoons sweet chili sauce
- 1–2 teaspoons sriracha
- 1 teaspoon lime juice
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1–2 stalks green onions, sliced thin
- 1 teaspoon toasted sesame seeds
Instructions
- Pat the shrimp completely dry with paper towels to ensure the coating sticks.
- In a shallow bowl, mix the flour with Old Bay seasoning. In another shallow bowl, mix panko breadcrumbs with a pinch of salt.
- Dredge each shrimp lightly in the seasoned flour, shaking off excess, then press into the panko breadcrumbs to coat all sides.
- Preheat air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for 3 minutes.
- Arrange breaded shrimp in a single layer in the air fryer basket without overcrowding.
- Lightly spray the tops of the shrimp with cooking oil.
- Air fry for 4 minutes, then flip the shrimp and spray the other side with oil.
- Air fry for another 4-6 minutes until shrimp are pink, opaque, and coating is golden and crispy.
- While shrimp cook, whisk together mayonnaise, sweet chili sauce, sriracha, lime juice, and garlic powder in a small bowl.
- Transfer cooked shrimp to a bowl, pour sauce over, and toss gently to coat.
- Serve immediately, garnished with sliced green onions and sesame seeds.
Notes
Ensure shrimp are completely dry before breading to prevent soggy coating. Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket; cook in batches if necessary. Serve immediately for best texture as the coating softens over time. For a vegetarian option, substitute firm tofu or king oyster mushrooms.
