Best Cinnamon Maple Latte: The Bloom Trick for Bold Flavor

  • Author: Eden
  • Total Time: 5 minutes
  • Yield: 1 serving 1x

Description

A cozy, homemade cinnamon maple latte made with real ingredients. This recipe uses a ‘blooming’ technique to infuse milk with cinnamon and maple syrup for a rich, aromatic drink ready in just 5 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 small cinnamon sticks (or 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon)
  • 1 cup milk (whole, oat, almond, or coconut)
  • 23 tablespoons pure maple syrup
  • 12 shots espresso or ½ cup strong brewed coffee
  • Pinch of salt
  • Optional: ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Optional: Ice for iced version

Instructions

  1. Brew espresso or strong coffee and set aside.
  2. In a small saucepan, combine milk, cinnamon sticks, and 1 tablespoon of maple syrup.
  3. Heat over medium-low heat for 3-4 minutes until fragrant and small bubbles form around the edge (do not boil). This blooms the cinnamon.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in remaining maple syrup and pinch of salt. Taste and adjust sweetness if needed.
  5. Froth the milk using a handheld frother, whisk, or by shaking in a lidded jar for 30 seconds.
  6. Pour hot espresso or coffee into a mug.
  7. Slowly pour the spiced, frothed milk over the coffee.
  8. Garnish with ground cinnamon or a cinnamon stick and serve immediately.

Notes

Do not boil the milk as it can taste scalded. Use whole cinnamon sticks for a cleaner flavor without grit. Warm your mug beforehand to keep the drink hot longer. The spiced milk can be made ahead and stored in the fridge for up to 3 days.
