Description
A cozy, homemade cinnamon maple latte made with real ingredients. This recipe uses a ‘blooming’ technique to infuse milk with cinnamon and maple syrup for a rich, aromatic drink ready in just 5 minutes.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 small cinnamon sticks (or 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon)
- 1 cup milk (whole, oat, almond, or coconut)
- 2–3 tablespoons pure maple syrup
- 1–2 shots espresso or ½ cup strong brewed coffee
- Pinch of salt
- Optional: ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
- Optional: Ice for iced version
Instructions
- Brew espresso or strong coffee and set aside.
- In a small saucepan, combine milk, cinnamon sticks, and 1 tablespoon of maple syrup.
- Heat over medium-low heat for 3-4 minutes until fragrant and small bubbles form around the edge (do not boil). This blooms the cinnamon.
- Remove from heat and stir in remaining maple syrup and pinch of salt. Taste and adjust sweetness if needed.
- Froth the milk using a handheld frother, whisk, or by shaking in a lidded jar for 30 seconds.
- Pour hot espresso or coffee into a mug.
- Slowly pour the spiced, frothed milk over the coffee.
- Garnish with ground cinnamon or a cinnamon stick and serve immediately.
Notes
Do not boil the milk as it can taste scalded. Use whole cinnamon sticks for a cleaner flavor without grit. Warm your mug beforehand to keep the drink hot longer. The spiced milk can be made ahead and stored in the fridge for up to 3 days.
