Description
A simple, foolproof homemade ranch-style dressing made with just five main ingredients. It’s tangy, creamy, and ready in minutes, offering a fresh alternative to store-bought bottles.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1/2 cup (120g) full-fat mayonnaise
- 1/4 cup (60g) sour cream
- 1/2 cup (120ml) buttermilk
- 2–3 tablespoons heavy cream or whole milk (optional)
- 2–3 cloves garlic, minced or grated
- 2 tablespoons fresh herbs (dill, parsley, and/or chives), chopped
- 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
- 1/2 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
- Black pepper (to taste)
Instructions
- Wash and pat dry fresh herbs, then chop them finely. Mince or grate the garlic.
- Add mayonnaise, sour cream, buttermilk, and lemon juice to a blender or food processor.
- Pulse or whisk until the base mixture is smooth and uniform.
- Add the minced garlic, chopped herbs, salt, and pepper.
- Pulse the blender 5-7 times or whisk vigorously to distribute ingredients evenly.
- Taste the dressing and adjust seasoning, thickness, or tanginess as needed.
- Serve immediately over salad or store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
Notes
For best flavor, let the dressing rest in the fridge for at least 30 minutes before serving to allow the garlic and herbs to infuse. If the dressing thickens in the fridge, stir in a teaspoon of buttermilk or milk to thin it. Do not freeze, as the dairy will separate.
