Extra-Crispy Air Fryer Brussels Sprouts: Grandmother’s Hot Honey Way

  • Author: Eden
  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

These extra-crispy air fryer Brussels sprouts are caramelized, blistered, and coated in a sweet-spicy hot honey drizzle. A quick, kid-approved side dish that delivers perfect texture without the hassle of traditional roasting.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 pounds Brussels sprouts, trimmed and halved
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 cup good quality honey
  • 12 teaspoons hot sauce (such as Frank’s RedHot)
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • Red pepper flakes, optional for garnish

Instructions

  1. Trim the dry stems from the Brussels sprouts and cut them in half lengthwise. Pat them dry thoroughly with paper towels to ensure crispiness.
  2. Place the halved sprouts in a large mixing bowl. Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with kosher salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Toss until evenly coated.
  3. Preheat the air fryer to 380°F (190°C). Arrange the sprouts in a single layer in the basket, ensuring they are not overcrowded. Cook in batches if necessary.
  4. Air fry for 12-15 minutes, shaking the basket or tossing the sprouts with tongs every 5 minutes to ensure even browning. They are done when golden brown, blistered, and tender.
  5. While the sprouts cook, make the hot honey sauce. In a small saucepan over low heat, combine honey, hot sauce, and butter. Stir constantly until the butter melts and the mixture is smooth and glossy.
  6. Transfer the cooked sprouts to a bowl. While still hot, drizzle the hot honey mixture over them and toss gently to coat.
  7. Serve immediately, garnished with red pepper flakes if desired.

Notes

Ensure sprouts are completely dry before oiling to prevent steaming. Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket; cook in batches if needed for maximum crispiness. The hot honey sauce can be made ahead and stored in the fridge for up to a week. Reheat leftovers in the air fryer at 350°F for 3-4 minutes to restore crispiness.
