Description
Easy, salty, and savory pinwheels made with crescent roll dough, ham, and sharp cheddar cheese. Perfect for lunchboxes, after-school snacks, or quick appetizers.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 can (8 oz / 270g) refrigerated crescent roll dough
- 3 tablespoons (45g) unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup (100g) sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
- 8–10 slices (200g) cooked deli-style ham
- 2 oz (50g) cream cheese, softened
- 1 tablespoon coarse pretzel salt
- 1 teaspoon poppy seeds or sesame seeds (optional)
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Unroll the crescent roll dough onto a lightly floured surface and gently roll it into a 12×10 inch rectangle, sealing any seams.
- Spread the softened cream cheese evenly over the dough, leaving a ½-inch border around the edges.
- Layer the ham slices over the cream cheese and sprinkle the shredded cheddar evenly on top. Add Dijon mustard if using.
- Starting from a long edge, tightly roll the dough into a log, tucking in the filling as you go. Pinch the seam to seal.
- Using a sharp knife, cut the log into 1-inch slices and place them cut-side up on the prepared baking sheet, spaced 1 inch apart.
- Brush the tops with melted butter and sprinkle generously with pretzel salt.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes, rotating the pan halfway through, until golden brown and puffed. Let cool for 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
Keep the dough cold to prevent tearing. Leave a border around the edges to prevent filling from oozing out. For make-ahead options, freeze unbaked pinwheels on a baking sheet before transferring to a bag. Bake straight from frozen, adding 2-3 minutes to baking time.
