Description
A quick, foolproof breakfast featuring toasted bagels topped with homemade dill cream cheese, folded smoked salmon, and capers. It offers a perfect balance of salty, creamy, and tangy flavors with zero cooking skills required.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 large bagels (plain, sesame, or everything), sliced in half
- 4 ounces (115g) softened full-fat cream cheese
- 2 tablespoons fresh dill, finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon red onion, minced
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- Pinch of salt
- Pinch of black pepper
- 4–6 ounces (115-170g) cold-smoked salmon (nova-style)
- 1 tablespoon capers, drained and patted dry
- Everything bagel seasoning (optional)
Instructions
- Wash and pat dry the fresh dill, then chop it finely. Mince the red onion as finely as possible.
- In a small bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, chopped dill, minced red onion, lemon juice, salt, and pepper. Mix until smooth and evenly green. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
- Toast the bagel halves until golden brown and crisp.
- While the bagels are still hot, spread a generous layer of the dill cream cheese on each half.
- Fold the smoked salmon loosely into ruffles and place it on top of the cream cheese.
- Scatter the drained capers over the salmon. Sprinkle with black pepper and everything bagel seasoning if desired.
- Slice in half and serve immediately.
Notes
Ensure the cream cheese is fully softened to avoid lumps. Drain and pat capers dry to prevent sogginess. Fold the salmon rather than laying it flat for better texture and presentation. Best eaten immediately while the bagel is warm.
